Developing critical intercultural awareness through video clip-assisted intercultural tasks

This paper reports quantitative findings of a project investigating the in-progress formation EFL students’ critical intercultural awareness (CIA) in Indonesian tertiary context. It examines 10-week pedagogical intervention using culturally appropriate YouTube clips with tasks. A one-group pre-test/post-test design was employed involving cohort 50 undergraduate participants mixed gender five faculties and from varying ethnic groups. An questionnaire administered twice before after learning intervention. paired-sample t-test performed SPSS 28 to examine mean differences. The results revealed significant improvement (Sig. 2-tailed value .001, p < .05) participants’ CIA scores. suggests that video clip-assisted tasks promote development abilities identify, interpret, critically evaluate values embedded clips. study further showed gender, fields ethnicity did not significantly contribute development.
